Reactive power optimization in power systems is one of the most effective control methods to ensure power system operation securely and economically, and an important measure to improve the voltage profile and reduce the net real loss, so that study of the problem of reactive power optimization has the great significance in theory and practical application.Reactive power optimization in power systems is a mixed nonlinear optimization problem with a large number of variables and constrains, the operating variables include continuous and discrete variables, so the optimization becomes very complex.As a kind of heuristic search algorithm based on the mechanics of probality selection,ant colony algorithm is fairly fit for solution to the problem of Reactive Power Optimization. This paper introduces the development and actuality of reactive power optimization in power system, establishes the basic mathematical model, studies the flow of solution to reactive power optimization applied by ant colony algorithm,and improves the solution of reactive power optimization based ant colony algorithm on base of utilizing features of reactive power optimization, including the realization of the control variables,the modification of formulas for fitting the optimization model and the amelioration in the program, presents full project based on the improved ant colony algorithm . This program is designed with VB6.0 language and used into the application of advanced software of Yichun regional power grids scheduling as an important unit.The proposed algorithm in this paper is applied to the IEEE30-bus system,and compares the result of unimproved algorithm,the results verify that the proposed algorithm advance the speed of calculate and improve the astringency of algorithm. The new research result is applicable to Liaoyun power grid, demonstrating the accuracy, validity and applicability of the proposed model and algorithm.
