Reactive power optimization is very important for ensuring the quality of voltage, security and economics of power system. There are many methods to solve this problem. This paper researched on Ant Colony Algorithm (ACA) and Immune Algorithm (IA) of reactive power optimization.The improved ACA has improved the pheromone update mechanism, proportional rule and so on.This paper presents an algorithm for optimizing reactive power using Immune Ant Colony Algorithm. The hybrid algorithm uses IA to give pheromone to distribute and makes use of improved ACA to give the optimal solution. This algorithm has been applied to IEEE 30 system and shows better results and convergence rate as compared to other methods.Then use this hybied algorithm to regional network, the result proves that this method is practicality.
