The explosion of boiler firepots is one of the common pernicious incidents, as a result, the heavy duty boilers are equipped with Furnace Safeguard Supervisory System, which is called as FSSS.At present,FSSS has become a necessary supervisory system in the running of the large-scale thermal power unit. It lies through the whole process of the unit starting, stopping and operating, carries on programmed control and protection for oil guns and coal burners, monitors the status and masses of parameters in combustion system continuously and closely, executes logical judgment and operation continually, commands corresponding interlocking apparatus to accomplish necessary operating by programs and interlocking equipments real-timely, ensures security of the boiler furnace, prevents the reoccurrence of explosion accident in furnace, etc.FSSS, which is operated in most modern domestic thermal power plants at present, is regarded as the research object in this paper. The basic principle of the each component and the function of FSSS are described briefly and appropriately. The whole practical operation of FSSS is also introduced. We come to know the problems of FSSS in the running of boiler from the plant operation, based on the skillfully mastering of theory about explosion preventing and furnace combustion management of FSSS. The author points out that it is the fake signal and too mechanical protection actions that add the frequency of Master Fuel Trip (MFT) dramatically, which cause the enormous losses.As for the problems above, the author gives thorough analysis and puts forward the corresponding improving and perfecting measures and expands the functions of FSSS. Three extending functions were provided to enhance the performance further, basing on the function of FSSS. They are the early warning function of MFT, the function of anomaly recognition of burning and automatically processing, the function of fidelity of thermodynamic protection signal. They can be taken in any unit of thermal power plant. More than one of the expanded functions of FSSS have been applied in some modern domestic thermal power plants. Good results have been achieved in the field application. And these perfect the field functions of FSSS greatly, provide more assurance for safe and economic operation in modern large-scale fuel electric plant.
