An early-warning system of handling process in petrochemical wharf is presented in this paper. Compared with many other early-warning models, the extension theory was suitable to the characteristic of dynamic and complex operation status in the wharf, so it was chosen as the early-warning model and to be applied. Lab VIEW 8.5, which is a platform and development environment for a visual programming language, was used to configure a computer program to process the timely large number of complicated data. And the program can be used to evaluate the safety management status of handling process in petrochemical wharf and make an early warning signal timely. For example of the actual situation of handling process in petrochemical wharf, an applicable case study had been designed and implemented. An early-warning index system was made up which contains 6 first-level indexes and 33 second-level indexes. The Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and discrepancy-driven theory were involved to calculate the objective and subject weights of all indexes respectively. Because there is a difference between the calculation results of two kinds of methods, combine the AHP and discrepancy-driven theory to calculate the combination weights of handling process in petrochemical wharf. The discrepancy-driven theory was programmed to avoid heavy manual calculation work. The early-warning status of first-level indexes was evaluated, which included human factors index, process equipment index, operation safety index, environment factors index, management organization index and emergency management index respectively. The results showed the all indexes were to be in a status of non-alarm, so the whole handling process of wharf was to be in a safety status according to the maximum correlation criterion. In this case, the index weight of human factors was the highest while its correlation degree with non-alarm was the lowest level, therefore it was necessary to improve the safety management level of human factors. The correlation degree of environment factors with non-alarm was the maximum. The application of this early-warning system on handling process of a petrochemical wharf shows that the early-warning model based on extension theory can be well adapted to evaluate the whole workplace status. This paper takes the comprehensive correlation degree as a evaluation criteria, makes the results more objective and effective. The program based on Lab VIEW makes operation faster and more accurate. It is intuitive and visible through the corresponding indicating lamp brighten to display real-time early-waning results.
