Structural innovation and the capability to employment are the direct embodiments of structural vitality. Although the concept of Beam String Structure (BSS) has been put forward and applied for more than 20 years, the structural style of BSS is still developing. From the earliest beam, arch, truss to single-layer lattice shell and truss shells, the development of upper structure reflect former innovation achievements in BSS. The characteristic of BSS in Tongji University Swimming Gymnasium is using "v" type strut which is different from traditional single strut.The main study object and engineering background of this paper is BSS in Tongji University Swimming Gymnasium. Comprehensive static analysis, stability analysis and comparison of different construction schemes are research-emphases of this paper. Theoretical analysis, program simulation and parameter analysis are used in this study.This paper introduces development and application history of BSS, and summarizes category and the characteristic of BSS. Chapter 2 summarizes Nonlinear Finite Element Method to BSS.Chapter 3 studies static property of BSS in Tongji University Swimming Gymnasium by using SAP 2000. Effect of asymmetric structure load and prestressing force on structural static property is researched. This chapter also researches influences of some parameters on structural static property, such as numbers of struts, value of prestressing force, stiffness of upper structure and support restraint, etc.Stability property of BSS in Tongji University Swimming Gymnasium is studied respectively from local and global aspects. Load-displacement curves of BSS in Tongji University Swimming Gymnasium have been get by using several different buckling analysis methods and failure mechanism have been studied in chapter 4.The geometric configuration and mechanical properties of BSS are related to the process of cable stretching. The method used to determine the design value of prestressing force is studied. Through calculation and comparison the most economical, the most reasonable and the safest scheme of stretching procedures could be ascertained.
