By the 1960's-1970's, with the transformation from Industrial Society to Post-Industrial Society, the western countries encountered the decline of traditional industry, consequently there came out a mass of industrial dereliction and wasteland. With the influence of the Environmental Movement, people began to rethink about the damage the industrial brings to the environment, focus on the destructed areas, and find the way to restore them. They also realize the very important value of the industrial heritage. At the same time, landscape planning and design with ideas of ecology was starting to get involved in this specific field. While the western landscape architects were studying the restoration of ecosystem and landscape regeneration, they established a complete set of theories of industrial heritage preservation and reusing. As China's urbanization is accelerating and the fast development of de-industrial, people must face the mass of industrial dereliction and the run-down industrial facilities in landscape design. What the value and the level of the industrial heritage are, and how to preserve and regenerate them is of great importance to China or to the whole world. At last the thesis makes a case study of the Ertong Factory under the nowadays domestic circumstance, which has set a reference.
