Western countries during the Industrial Revolution produced a large number of industrial activities which led to the process of world economic development; when stepping into the post-industrial era, the world economy has entered a stable period, during which industrial production declined. The early 20th century witnessed the beginning of social structure transition--the tertiary industry became the main driving force of social and economic development; advanced science and technology began to serve industrial production while the past industrial production technology, due to characteristics of high energy consumption, high pollution and others, exerts impact on the environment and is difficult to meet the needs of modern social productive forces, posing a departure from people’s expectation of living environment quality. As a result, many industrial plants have to move to the places far from the urban areas or be removed. However, there are some plants and building structures with high conservation value among these industrial plants, which reflects the rise of urban industry in specific times and offers solid evidence for subsequent research historians. By the middle of 20th century, Western scholars were aware of the importance of re-using industrial heritage, and began to actively join in the reuse of industrial heritage, producing many outstanding cases, such as Duisburg Landscape Park in Germany, Citroen Park in France and Gas Work Park in Seattle, US. These cases give rise to domestic researchers’focus on industrial heritage reuse, which has important reference value for the re-use of industrial heritage in China. The thesis, starting from the background of industrial heritage generation, elaborates on the value system of industrial heritage and related concepts and sorts out the idea of industrial heritage reuse. Then, the method of example analysis is adopted to analyze foreign successful cases, followed by the existing condition of industrial heritage reuse in China, forming a contrast with the former, so that the problems are identified and countermeasures are proposed, from a comparison of the existing problems and propose solutions countermeasures. Next, through the use of comparative analysis and field research andcombined with a wide range of subject knowledge, a survey on the existing status of The Third Cotton Spinning and Weaving Mill in Jinan City is conducted to summarize its advantages and points needing improvement and carry out preliminary planning transformation. Finally, effective strategies and prospects for conservation and utilization are proposed and the constructive guidelines and design methods against the existing status of urban industrial heritage landscape transformation in China are presented.
