In recent years, with the implement of the development strategy of western regions in China, the airport constructions in the mountainous southwest of China have been coming into a prosperous period. However, the main characteristics of the airports in the field contain not only high embankment, intensive earthquake, complex geological conditions accompanied with soft soil, but also the short construction period. Therefore, the initial and core problem of the airports' constructions in the mountainous southwest of China is how to deal with the high embankment's stability and deformation (settlement and differential settlement) properly. But the study on the stability and deformation of the high embankment foundation is few in the domestic and the abroad. And even the standard of high embankment is still in issue.Liupanshui Airport lies in Liupanshui city of Guizhou Province, which is at the altitude of the airport is 1963 meter. The maximum height of the embankment is 85.14 meter, the overall filled amount is 33 million m~3, and the overall excavated amount is 30.15 million m , the thickness of the weak soil under the embankment is almost 50 meter. Because of the bad weather condition, the complex geology condition and the embankment's basement that is the slope region of slow dip downhill roch, the research on the stability of the side slop filled is very necessary. The stability of the side slop filled not only influences the design construction operation, construction, function and investment of project, but also restricts the feasibility of the project, which is the key factor of the successful construction of the airport.According to the geology data and environment engineering geology estimates, which are made by the antecedents' researches, we studies on the stability of Liupanshui Airport's high embankment foundation with the methods of geology analysis, quantitative analysis, numerical simulation analysis.First of all, we studies on the engineering geology conditions of the embankment foundation. We make the geology analysis estimate on the stability of the high embankment by studied on the type of the embankment' slope, structure and the spreading features of the rock-soil mass, and so on.Secondly, find out the most dangerous slip surface by applying limiting equilibrium principle to type slope under the different conditions, and adopting many methods to count.Thirdly, with 2 -Dimensional Finite Element Method analysis, simulate the type section's strain stress characters. Apply the actual strain stress to count the Safe coefficient of the slope' Stability factor for the purpose of founding out the most dangerous slope. Then according to the outcome of limiting equilibrium method, comprehensively analyze on the stability of the high embankment in Liupanshui Airport.Finally, with the 2 -Dimensional Finite Element Method (F.E.M), simulate the type section' deformation, and analyze the destroy feature of the type section.According to the outcomes of the methods adopted in the research, we estimate the stability of the embankment in Liupanshui Airport comprehensively, and give the conclusions. Depending on the outcomes and conclusions, we give some suggestion of the settle measure.
