With the great development of West China, the airport construction in the mountainous southwest of China is coming into a prosperous period.High embankment, complex geological conditions accompanied with soft soil are the main characteristics for these airports.Therefore.properly dealing with the stability and deformation of the high embankment during the construction is the first and nuclear task in these regions.Libo airport researched in this paper is a lateral airport with main intent to tour. The grade index in flight area is 3C at this date and 4C at a future date by scale-up construction. The runway is 2300m long and 45m wide. The construction site is cutted by a series of channels and velleys.so the landform undulation is bigger. The stability and deformation of the high embankment is a key engineering technology problem because of construction is carrying through in this one slope area whose channels and velleys are developing.Especially the problem of the stability of the embankment behave outstanding specially. This paper emphasize the analysis to the high embankment foundation unstability mode on the base of analysis and research to the geology-rock mechanics conditions. And this pater using advanced two-dimensional finite element method and three-dimensional numerical simulation analysis technology to analyse the high embankment foundation unstability mode.On these base the paper adopted limiting equilibrium method to evaluate the stability of the high embankment. At last, the optimization suggestion on the engineering disposal measure to the site foundation and the design as well as construction of the embankment is brought forward.
