Restoration and conservation of cultural heritage's landscape and character call for planting plan and design under the object of conservation. Conservation of the landscape, scene and character of the site is essential for world culture heritage conservation. However, because of the highly urbanized surrounding environment, landscape and character of heritage are disturbed more and more badly by city function and citizens'activities. These entire disturbances put a lot of pressure on the historical and natural environment on which the heritage based. Among the elements which have shaped the landscape and character of the heritage, it is vegetation, which contains both ecological and cultural meanings, that plays a key role. So, it is necessary to do restoration and conservation plan of planting after digging out and understanding the history and culture of the heritage.This thesis took the Temple of Heaven as the object of planning and designing. First, the history, culture and current problems were studied and analyzed. Then the principle and approaches of environmental psychology were introduced in to guide the planning and designing in order to protect the history outlook of the Temple of Heaven. In the end, it came to a structural zoning plan as the result of planning and a design of a series of spaces.Environmental psychology is a kind of science which probe into environment by the approaches of psychology. It was developed on the decade between 1960s and 1970s.Environmental psychology focused on the application of psychology principles on the fields of city, building, landscape and interior space. It has obviously become an independent branch of psychology. The main topics it discussed are the relationship of environment and behavior, perceive of environment, environmental experience and so on. The principles of environmental perceive mainly explain the mechanisms of environmental information capture and environmental information preference. In this planning and designing work, the controlling and modifying of vegetation types and planting community structure are the main approaches to affect people's environmental experience. Vegetation type is a kind of catalog system based on the vegetations'life form. It offers environmental information from vegetations'outlook. This information can be captured directly by sense organs and it has direct effects on environmental experience. Planting community structure determines the spatial structure of vegetation landscape. Environmental information form vegetation space is the precondition of behaviors. And vegetation space itself is the place where behaviors happen. Planting community structure affects people's environmental experience indirectly.Finally, controlled and managed in the vegetation style and planting community structure in the process of planting plan and design, the environment of the heritage can send out environmental information which matches the landscape, scene and character of the cultural heritage. And people inside of it can get the environmental experience of history. So that, the object of restoration and conservation of history and culture can achieve.
