The Study On The Architectural Style & Space Configuration Of The Dong Fuxiang Mansion In Ning Xia

In the background of globalization there is a tendency, which is influenced by the European and American modern civilization, towards the homology of global culture. Like the two sides of a sword, there are two aspects in the homolgy of global culture as follows: In the field of economy it promotes the social and the economic development, while in the field of culture it restrains the regionality and nationality. Through the recording, protecting and studying the traditional outstanding architecture man can find the the regionality and nationality of the architectural culture, develop the excellent regional culture and restore the diversity of the architectural culture.The Dong Fuxiang Mansion lies in the suburban of Wuzhong in Ningxia and derived from the residence of the famous retired military officer Dong Fuxiang in the Qing-Dynasty. The construction of Dong Fuxiang Mansion started in the year of 1902 and finished after 3 years. There are two rings of circumvallations surround the residence. The outer circumavallation has been ruined. In the east side of the inner circumavallation there is a gate. The two patios and three rows of houses constitute a squared yard. The Mansion, that contains high scientific value, is the most magnificent and integrated residence of ancient officer in the northwest of China.In this dissertation the regional culture in Ningxia and the discipline of traditional residences is generally interpreted firstly. After that the cultural background, natural environment, adjacent settlements, space configuration, deco-art and construction technology are analyzed in the aspect of architecture. The study on the Dong Fuxiang Mansion could consummate the contemporary techniques of architectural creation and the conservation of architectural heritage.Axial symmetry, closed space, arrangements clarity, defense function and heterogeneity belong to the Architectural Style & Space Configuration. The effect of the deco-art shows elegantly and pithily. The selection and utilization of building materials are sophisticated. Finally, the revelation of the architectural creation in this dissertation lies in using the local materials, conceiving the regional space, creating the unique architecture and developing moderately.
