As a product of a special era,modern residence buildings in Wuhan are influenced by the influx of western architectural culture and the new architectural trend.They have distinctive characteristics of the times,representing the highest level of modern residential buildings in Wuhan and the characteristics of Wuhan buildings under the special background of modern times.Wuhan historical residence bears the glory and heavy historical memory of " oriental Chicago",which is part of Wuhan's modern architectural history.Since the reform and opening up,Chinese houses have been baptized by western culture and have undergone earth-shaking changes.In the process of exchanging human settlement culture,residence architecture has an influence that cannot be ignored.Wuhan was an important military and political center in modern times,and various military officers and dignitaries built houses here one after another.The aesthetic appreciation of these influential people at that time certainly affected the style of house construction at that time.The local mansion builders and designers in Wuhan are both bound by the advanced western architectural culture and the traditional Chinese architectural culture deeply rooted in their minds.In addition,due to the personal value orientation and aesthetic differences of the mansion owners,various factors have collided and mingled,resulting in the diversity of architectural decoration features of Wuhan's modern celebrity mansion.As for each historical residence itself,the layout of each residence building varies greatly according to the area occupied.However,careful study shows that the residence buildings in this period are basically composed of single-family buildings and garden courtyard.On the one hand,the beautiful landscape of the traditional Chinese residence garden is preserved,and on the other hand,the modern western architectural appearance and decoration aesthetics are integrated.Its function is both comfortable to live in.At the same time,luxurious decoration and multi-functional places also meet the needs of social interaction and work.In combination with the identity background and hobby needs of the residence owner,various functional designs and modifications have been carried out to make different residence buildings have their own characteristics and have considerable research value.According to incomplete statistics,there are still 29 existing historical residence buildings in Wuhan.The former residence of Xia Douyin,the residence of Kong Geng,the residence of Fang Benren,the residence of Yang Jinyu,the residence of Cai Hanqing,the residence of Lu Shouan and other buildings have been demolished.Therefore,it is urgent to explore and protect the value of Wuhan's historical buildings.With the unprecedented development of architecture today,studying these valuable historical buildings is conducive to the protection and renovation of these historical buildings,as well as to the inheritance and development of architectural art.On the basis of relevant documents and background knowledge,the paper confirms the architectural list of Wuhan historical residence preserved in modern times till now.On this basis,it focuses on the analysis of its architectural style,construction technology and relevant cultural background,discusses it from the perspective of integrating resources and giving full play to the value of historical buildings,and selects representative examples for analysis.It will be discussed in the complex urban development pattern,and the protection strategy for Wuhan historical residence buildings will be put forward from the basic principles of protection,the architectural function and the intervention of urban residents.
