Being an effective energy-saving technology,air Curtain is getting more and more applications in small scaled cold storages.The strong infiltration is made because of air curtain's unreasonable design and installation in many small scaled cold storages.The goods quality in storage is seriously influenced,and the energy consumption will be increased.Computational fluid dynamics(CFD)technology is applied a two-dimensional small scaled cold storage model is established to study the air curtain with a thermal force.The small scaled cold storage is cooled by overhead cooling coil.By numerical simulation of the air curtain at different conditions,the best angles and velocities were obtained,which could guide the reasonable design of a cold storage.By using the established model,numerical simulation were respectively carried out for the cases in which the outdoor temperature is 290 K,the air curtain outlet width is respectively 0.1 m,0.05 m and0.03 m,and the air flow angle is respectively 0°,10°,20°and 30°.At different cases the efficiencies of the air curtain were studied.It was found the highest efficiency is obtained when the angel is 30°with air velocity of 10.5 m/s or so and the air curtain outlet width of 0.03 m.To validate the simulation results,the paper also compared the experimental date with simulation results.By numerical simulation,the relationship of the air curtain outlet velocity and the efficiency was analyzed by changing the ambient temperature.Air curtain outlet velocity should be increased as the outdoor temperature increases to achieve the maximal efficiency of the air curtain.With the numerical simulation and experiment study of the air curtain of the cold storage,reasonable design parameters were obtained and suggestions for installation were proposed.
