The floor slab in steel staggered structures would not only bear and transfer the vertical loads, but also the lateral loads from the upper truss to the adjacent lower one, so it is critical to the gloable behaviors of the structure. As the study was very rare in theory in model test, the experiment in this paper had great value in theory and in practice. This paper mainly focused on the bearing capacity and failure mechanism of improved concrete slab in steel staggered truss structures under monotonic loading. The main idea of the paper was to give some suggestions on shear distribution of the slab, and to provide safty technical measurements to ensure the safety of the steel staggered truss system under lateral loads.First, the prototype of a 18-story steel staggered truss structure was designed by program ETABS, then 1:3 scale model was obtained in terms of similarity theory, and monotonic behavior of the model was analyzed by ANSYS. Based on the result, the experimental scheme and strain guage arrangement were designed. After that, the test was carried out and shear capacity was analyzed. The load-displacement curve indicated that the slab without weakening had high bearing capcity and can be assumed as rigidity. The failure mode of the slab may be in closed relation to the strength and stiffness of truss with out-of-plane bending of the slab by comparison with the test results of gloable structure. The conclusions may be helpful for the further research.
