Accurate fault location of transmission line under a variety of power constraint and fault condition is an important requirement to the service reliability and operation security of power systems. Transmission line faults are accurately located to allow maintenance crews to arrive at the scene and repair the faulted section as soon as possible. Rapid restoration of service reduces outage time and loss of revenue.Therefore, accurate fault location of line is important to a permanent fault. And pointing to a week spot, it is also helpful for a transient fault, which may result from a marginally contaminated insulator, a swaying or growing tree under the line.Based on comprehensive reading of references about transmission line fault location, this thesis does some research on transmission line fault location, the main task of this thesis are as follow:1. The paper introduces some typical algorithm of fault location about transmission line, some of those use single terminal data, and others use double-end data. By the analysis of the algorithm, a new algorithm which calculates harmonic component is presented. It is a more accurate algorithm based on single terminal data.2. Fault location method of transmission line based on single-terminal information is validated by Beihai power grid, and the results show better accuracy than the conventional algorithm.3. The paper has also made the analysis of fault recorder information and presentation of faulty type in transmission line.
