Based on the work theory of Static Var Compensator, considering the status quo that high switch frequency leads to large waste, it is not exact to reflect different waste with a resistance, this will affect the parameter design of the controller. This paper improves the old mathematic mode basing on detailedly analyzing different waste, the improved mode more accords with actual waste.In view of the absence of the research of large capacity static synchronous compensator main circuit configuration, this paper deeply researches several typical main circuit configurations which are fit for large capacity STATCOM, the output voltage expressions and waveforms of different main circuit configurations are given; several material ways and general laws about enlarging capacity and eliminating harmonic are summarized; Besides, this paper discusses and compares the advantage and disadvantage of several main circuit configurations.Based on the theory of instantaneous var, this paper adopts i_p - i_q without phase lock loop to detect, not only this method is not restricted by the aberrance of voltage frequency, but also the basal wave detected by this method is exact and effective. Based on this, this paper proposes the circuit direct control without phase lock loop.The simulink mode was constructed in the environment of the MATLAB/SIMULINK. This paper simulated the static and dynamic traits of sentimental and capacitive loads. The simulation results show that the circuit direct control without phase lock loop that this paper proposed can meet the desire of var compensation.The hardware which is required was amply designed in this paper, the circuit diagrams related were also gave.Based on the chip of DSP 2812, this paper designed the software of STATCOM with C language in the environment of CCS 2000, the flow charts can be seen in this paper.At last, this paper made some experiments correlated with hardware circuits. Besides, the STATCOM which was designed by this paper was experiented in the lab, the result shows that the compensating effect is good.
