The equipment based on fixed capacity and subdivided capacitor which are used for reactive power compensation, because of its low price, has been primary used for reactive power compensation and filtering out harmonic, the installed capacity would grow bigger and bigger. However, the device used in the project, usually composed of the controller and relay protection, they are two sets of independent equipments, and often produced by different manufacturers. We must do secondary development when use them. In reactive power compensation and harmonic filtering, we need to do some analysis of power quality in order to watch the effect of the compensation. Many manufacturers developed specialized power quality analyzers which cost too much. This paper studies on the development of the multi-function reactive power compensation control system, the target is to colligate var compensation controller, the power quality analysis and relay protection together, greatly reduced the costs, enhanced the function of the system and shorten the development cycle.Firstly, the paper introduces instantaneous reactive theory, the theory of the reactive current detection, the TSC theory, the calculation of the power parameters and the design theory of relay protection. Secondly, based on these theories, the hardware platform is designed which used the TMS320F2812DSP and EP1C6Q240C8 FPGA as the core, and sampling circuit, signal processing circuit, phase locked loop and other peripheral circuit. And then designs the system software: the reactive current detection, the sampling of the voltage and current signals, FFT analysis, the put into and cut of the thyristor, and relay protection. In order to do the power quality analysis and, we also designs the human-machine interface with VC++.
