With the development of power electronics technology and constant improvementof the level of industrial automation, power consumers have increasing requirementsfor electrical power quality and reliability. At present, there is inadequate capacity ofreactive power compensation and increasing reactive load in the power system. Allthese especially the impact of reactive power load, not only lead to incremental losses,but also seriously affect the quality of client power. The current reactive powercompensation device using ordinary mechanical switching device to switch capacitorcan not meet the demand that industrial field asks for compensating for reactive power.In particular, in the industrial field where power harmonics exist, the current reactivepower compensation device will cause harm such as harmonic wave amplification andresonance.The paper discusses the actual state and development tendency of reactive powercompensation, and analyses the problems of the current reactive power compensationdevice. And thus put forward a modified TSC reactive power compensation device.According to the capabilities and features of the reactive power compensation device,the paper firstly studies the problems of its main circuit topology and parameterselection series reactor, bringing up the concept of tuning reactors and detuningreactor.Secondly, the paper analyzes switching devices and switching technology for zero.It also intensively studies the method of the power detection and the conventionalinstantaneous reactive power theory, the generalized instantaneous reactive powertheory and its application.Finally, the paper researches hardware, software and human-oriented desigh ofthe reactive power compensation device, going into several technical proposals ofthe reactive current detection. Based on the actual test, improved reactive powercompensation device has obvious advantages in switching speed and harmonicsuppression.
