The railway is the most important factor of the national economy. The information technique can enhance the competition strength of the railway, it is also the foundation and the premise to face the challenge of the new century. The Geographic Information System(GIS) is a computing system which can process, analyze and show the space data, it have already been applied in realms, such as traffic, city planning, land administration, electric power , telecommunication. Currently, the GIS has combined extensively with multimedia, virtual reality, remote sensing and Global Positioning System, it has become a good artifice to the management of the space information. With the development of Global Positioning System and Geographic Information System and mobile information transmission, are within easy reach the improvement of railroad facilities and the capacity of the railway transportation with effective solutions. How to apply those technologies to the railway transportation draws more and more concerns and attentions of the railroad professionals.After analyzing the characteristics of various positioning methods, I design a trains' positioning system. The technology of integrated GPS/DR/MM(Global Positioning System/Dead Reckoning/Map Matching) positioning is adopted to implement trains' positioning in the system. The technology of data fusion by means of fuzzy algorithm approach is employed to deal with the processing of data. Making use of the GSM-R to transmit the trains' positioning data. The way of data fusion and the Map Matching also have been designed in the system. At last I write a program to send the stimulant GPS signals which follow the agreement NMEA-0183. It provides various stimulant GPS signals to the trains' positioning system. The program also can correct the longitude and the latitude of the map, save and replay the route. It is proved that this study has positive effect to the positioning of the railway.
