Bucket foundation structure (BFS) was developed and used by Norway Statoil, which was born in Norway in nineties. BFS is replacing pile foundation and gravity foundation in some aspects because it has some advantages, such as reducing engineering work, saving investment, shortening construction time and iterative use. But until now, the study on the added mass coefficient of BFS is not enough, so it is significant to keep on the study to perfect the theory and design, which can provide the academic gist and technical support for the application of BFS.This article is to analyze the added mass coefficient of BFS. The model test way is mainly used in the article. This paper studies the air floating theory and added mass theory of BFS on the basis of the analytical method and theory of general float structure. This test was the first model BFS towing test in China. Based on the data measured in the test such as the acceleration of the BFS, the pressure in the buckets and so on, this paper figures out the added mass coefficient of BFS and does some analyze. The conclusions are as follows: the deeper of the depth of the bucket in the water, the larger of the added mass coefficient when the BFS is in free movement; the tilt angle and the towing position won't affect the added mass coefficient when the BFS is towed; the towing direction, the towing velocity, the depth of the bucket in the water and the waves can influence the added mass coefficient. The fruit in this paper has great guidance on the computation and design of BFS, at the same time it has established a foundation of true BFS towing test for the future.
