Retractable roof structure is a type of structure in which part of, or the entire roof can be moved within a short time so that the building can be used with the roof either in an opened state or in a closed state. Moving roof lets building have indoor and outdoor using functions. It has become a lending trend in modern sport facilities.Because of the peculiarity of the retractable roof structures, it is necessary to consider and calculate the impact loads resulting from the collision when the structures are moving on the tracks for avoiding the accidents. However; it is difficult to quantify the impact loads accurately. The engineers usually make use of different aggrandized load parameters to solve the problem in the past; otherwise, it is not accurate and even produces a wrong result. Based on summarizing on years of experience of foreign countries in the field, this paper explains the principles of collision protection technology and the methods of structure design in detail.The dissertation limits itself to the structures using horizontal retractable method. In part one a summary of retractable roof is presented. In this part, the concepts, the development and the classifications in different points of view of the retractable roof structure are concluded. A collision model of the retractable roof is built and the whole collision response process is discussed by the methods based on ANSYS or LS-DYNA and the analysis results of the two methods are compared in part two. In part three, based on the above theories and models of the above retractable roof, the collision interaction on the factors of different spans; different depths; different thicknesses and different support stiffness is discussed and the collision response rules are obtained, which can be the reference of the collision-resistance design of the retractable roof system. In the last part, according to the features of collision response, the paper finds the rational arrangement plan of viscoelastical damped bars in the retractable roof model. The example indicates that the method has good computational efficiency and is valuable to structural design.
