The cylinder block, framework of a diesel engine, supports and fixes all the components and accessories, and suffers from very complicated force conditions, and its reliability has an important effect on the performances of a diesel engine. A detailed analysis, computation or exact evaluation on its structural strength and rigidity is essential in the process of design in order to improve and optimize the design scheme correctly, and then achieves a satisfactory effect of design. In this thesis, FEM technique is mainly concentrated and used to do static strength, transient strength, thermal and thermal-structure coupling analysis on the cylinder block of 4100QB diesel engine, which is useful to future design and amelioration.First, three-dimensional geometric solid model of 4100QB diesel engine cylinder block is established on the platform of Pro/Engine, and then meshed by using hexahedron elements on the platform of Hypermesh.. Second combine ADAMS and ANSYS to analyze and simulate the 4100QB flexible model, calculate the force of engine block at one circulation. Comparing the flexibility body result and rigid body result, indicate flexibility body factor may affect engine block force. Third establish the detailed finite element model of engine block to analysis transient strength by ANSYS,simulation the dynamic strength change mechanism during the engine operation. At the same time, the heat transference in the cylinder, only convection while under steady calculating is considered. The cylinder applying bore was divided into sections according to different loads when thermal loads on to the inside surface of the cylinder bore. Finally the thermal-structure coupling analysis of cylinder block is carried out by ANSYS, then find the dangerous behavior, check the safety coefficient.This paper calculates the strength of 4100QB diesel engine cylinder block, the result provides the foundations for designs and improvements of the cylinder block.
