The distributed generation technology is a new-typed perspective utilization of energy sources, of which wind and solar energy have advantages over other renewable sources and become the most competitive mode of energy genaration. Although distributed generation, such as wind and solar energy, can generate mass of active and reactive power, it is unstable because of its randomness and intermittence. So it has great effect on the security and stability of power system.To ensure the security of the distribution networks with distributed generations, reactive compensation is strongly required where distrubited generations are connected to power system. Many researches have been done, but there are still many problems to be solved.Analyzing the main power quality problems, bringing forward reasonable scheme and simulating are the three key factors in the engineering design of SVC (Static Var Compensator).On the basis of theories existed, combining the instantaneous reactive theory and symmetrical component method, this dissertation finds a real-time method to calculate the value of reactive power of the system. In response to the reactive power value, the compensation current which is used for operations of SVC can be obtained through PI regulator. This method is simulated through the matlab/simulink tools. The results turn out that the proposed method is feasible and speeds up the response of compensation device greatly.
