As new kind lateral-loads-resisting systems, eccentrically braced frames(EBFs) are a popular alternative to moment resisting frames (MRFs) and concentrically braced frames (CBFs), due to their ability to combine high lateral stiffness and excellent ductility. EBFs can provide high elastic stiffness and large inelastic energy dissipation capacity in resisting lateral loads caused by seismic activity. They can reduce material consumption, and keep good ductility at extreme overloads. In high seismic regions, eccentrically braced frames are quite popular, they have good ductility and can sustain to severe cyclic loads.V style eccentrically braced steel frame is one of EBFs which has high lateral stiffness , excellent ductility and excellent energy-dissipation capacity . This is a new kind lateral-loads-resisting systems and will be applied widely in the future.Firstly, this paper presents the developing situation inside and outside theory of EBFs and relevant China, then introduced the EBFs frame design of the basic principles and norms of some basic requirements lastly, This paper applies nonlinear finite element program ANSYS to analyze the behaviors of eccentrically braced steel flames under unidirectional load and cyclic load. The study that comprehensive and systematic analyze the factor of links length, high-span ratio, thickness of links flange, height of links flange to be changed affect ultimate bearing capacity, stiffness, ductility, energy-dissipation capacity of V shape eccentrically braced steel frames. Base on the analyze result of the FEM program, the proposal for designing V type eccentrically braced steel frames is put up.V-shaped steel frame of EBFs system at home and abroad very few people involved. The study that analyzing V type of eccentrically braced steel frames fills the black in the filed, and the conclusions can be useful for revising design code, guiding design of engineering, and provide good basis for further to study seismic-resistant behavior of eccentrically braced steel frames.
