This text makes use of VB and automation technology to carry on the re-development of CATIA to realize a parameterize model design system of piston. Some corresponding engineering analyses are carried out after design finished by use of a quarter piston model and finite element method.Automation technology is one of methods of re-development of CATIA, it allows an application procedure to operate another application procedure, it is very easy to understand and operate. This text takes the VB language as the development kit and compiles some procedures to operate CATIA to make Automation method communicate with CATIA in time to make parameterize design come true. This text develops some friendly design tables, which make the design process to be more convenient.The parameterize design method that propose in the practical application of CAD technology is one of the most advanced technologies in today' s mainstream CAD technology. special product design systems developed by parameterize design method can let designs relief from massive tedious design calculation and cartography work. This text minutely analyze pistons' structure, according to the piston design request and the design calculation theory, follows the parameterize design concept and combine the characteristic of pistons to carry on the summary induction to its characteristic, develop a piston parameterize design system, the parameterize design process is elaborated detailedly.piston is one of the key components of engine, it's design quality concerns working reliability and durability of engine directly and affects the emission performance of engine directly at the same time. The working condition of piston are extremely bad because mixture air burning produces the high-temperature and high-pressure fuel gas causes the piston top and even whole temperature of piston very high, moreover, the temperature distribution is very non-uniform which causing the piston to produce heat stress and heat distortion. Simultaneously, the piston stands periodic loads, such as high gas-pressure, inertia-pressure, side direction pressure and frictional force which produced by combustion gas pressure and high speed, the loads make piston produces mechanical stress and distortion. The heat load and the machinery load will cause the piston to produce crackle, piston-ring gluing and scuffing of cylinder bore and so on. Therefore, in the period of development of new products, it is necessity to calculate and analyze the piston temperature field and intensity situation, find out the heat load state of the piston and comprehensive stress distribution situation, and then improve the design of piston. This text makes use of a quarter model of piston and ANSYS software to calculate the temperature distribution and the stress and distortion when the piston withstand the temperature load alone, the mechanical load alone, and they work together in the biggest explosion pressure situation, all these results can provide temperature and the stress data that similar to practical work condition of piston and can give the designers some ideas to improve the piston design.The integrate of parameterize design concept and the finite element analysis method make the piston design automated and the design process improvably, the technology can obviously reduce the product design cycle, improve the design efficiency and has very significant application value.
