The fuel cell electric bus (FCEB) takes the fuel cell as the main power source. The fuel cell directly converts the chemical energy of the fuel into the electrical energy, and actuates the motor to drive the bus. The focus of this paper was the fuel cell/ultracapacitor hybrid electric bus. Based on theory deduction and engineering analysis, the parameters matching of fuel cell, ultracapacitor, motor and transmission was put forward. The control strategy of FCEB was analyzed and discussed. Combining the characteristic of power train of FCEB, a dynamics model of rear- axle drive FCEB was set up. A performance simulation model for FCEB and simulation models of fuel cell, ultracapacitor and motor were set up with MATLAB /SIMULINK. The simulation analysis of dynamics performance was conducted on a domestic FCEB with ADVISOR. The experiments on the electric motor and the dynamics performance of FCEB were performed. The results showed that the dynamic performance and the fuel economy fulfill the designed requirements for the FCEB. Based analysis of braking force, a new regenerative brake model was set up and simulated.
