In the recent year, more and more large-scale systems are needed for the development of modern industry. These systems themselves keep developing towards the directions of high-power, high-capability, high-speed, high-efficiency and becoming more and more complex. How to effectively maintain these systems, to enhance their security and reliability, to avoid abnormal events and to take their full advantages has become one of the most significant causes of modern management. The application of advanced fault diagnosis techniques can help to identify the system fault, to avoid and prevent the occurrence of vicious accident and to minimize the cost of maintenance. As a result, the research of advanced fault diagnosis techniques is very important for modern enterprises both in economic and practical value.This paper is the basic component of the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program, ID: 2007AA04Z433). In this paper, the method of mechanical fault diagnosis is studied by adopting the advanced way of artificial intelligence. The main content of this paper is as follows. Firstly the significance and background of this paper is introduced in Chapter 1. The purpose and significance of fault diagnosis of machinery is expatiated on afterwards. Then the development status of fault diagnosis of machinery and artificial intelligence in fault diagnosis are summarized. And then the development trend of fault diagnosis technology is analyzed in this chapter at home and abroad. In the end, the research's target of the paper is put forward and the content and structure of the paper is summarized.The basal concept of Boolean Algebra and the application of Boolean Matrix in disease diagnosis are introduced in Chapter 2. The fault diagnosis model based on Boolean matrix is put forward. And the foundation of this model is expatiated on.The method of mechanical fault diagnosis is studied in Chapter 3. Firstly the foundation of the fault cause-symptom matrix is introduced. The new fault cause-symptom matrix sieving method is put forward. Secondly the geometric distance distinguishing approach is introduced. In the end, a new method of fault diagnosis is devised. The new method mainly includes two steps: the first step uses the fault cause-symptom matrix sieving method to reduce the solution space; and the second uses the geometric distance distinguishing approach to determine the order of the possibility of fault cause.The design and implement of a fault diagnosis expert system of rotating machine based on fault cause-symptom matrix is expatiated on in Chapter 4. Firstly the concept, characteristics, frame and principle of expert system is introduced. Secondly the frame of the fault diagnosis expert system of rotating machine based on fault cause-symptom matrix is discussed. The method of the design of knowledge base and inference engine is mainly discussed. In the end, the fault diagnosis expert system of rotating machine based on fault cause-symptom matrix is carried out.
