Reactive power compensation has been proved an effective measure to reduce electric circuit loss and to increase working-system stable level. Static Var Compensator(SVC) based on Thyristor Controlled Reactor(TCR) has good compensation-performance for rapid changing load, so it has become a hotspot in recent years.In this paper,the theory of TCR-type compensation device is elaborated,and 6-pulse TCR's characteristic harmonic is studied.Then, a new type of TCR controller is developed, whose core is chips of DSP+CPLD and which is based on Steinmetz theory and the method of oriented voltage vector transformation. Nice control method and mighty processor enble the controller to compensate changing load accurately, rapidly and credibly.
