Static Var Compensator(SVC) based on Thyristor Controlled Reactor(TCR) hasgood compensation-performance for rapid changing load, so it has become a hotspotin recent years. In this paper, all equipments of the SVC family is introduced, theworking principle and control on TCR is searched, especially for the 12-pluseTCR's characteristic harmonic. A detection approach to harmonics and reactivecurrents based on sine modulation is introduced. Based on this theory, a dynamicVar compensator controller is designed with AVR microcomputer. On this hardwareplatform, automatic control of the equipment is realized by programming in the Clanguage. It has been tested by the experimentation in the substation that thisequipment can compensate changing load accurately, rapidly and credibly controlledby this controller.
