Rockfill dam with concrete is one of the most important dam in hydro-structure, It has received the widespread attention for its multitudinous merits as the local material dam. Specially in the recent 30 years it develops very quickly and is used broadly, and gradually becomes the dam with strong competitiveness and prospect. The design of CFRD has obtained many successful experience and lessons from failure, but the research how to improve the efficiency and quality of design, to full the potentiality and save the dam material is few now, and the optimized method relies mainly on the mathematical programming law and the criterion law, which have great limitation, and convergent slowly. Based on these ,the deeply researched of the optimization design of CFRD is done, which provides a optimized method with important reference value and reasonable achievements for the dam.In this paper, the author expounds development and actuality of CFRD optimum design; describes structure calculating method and Genetic Arithmetic principium. Based on the structure features and loading features of CFRD, the mathematical model of CFRD's optimization design is established , which takes the dam's volume as objective functions , takes slope angle and the angle between demarcation lines of dam material and horizontal as design variables, and takes slope stabilization,stress deformation and so on as constraint conditions. Based on the features of optimization design, the optimization method of CFRD based on Genetic Arithmetic is suggested. Because SGA's disadvantages that premature convergence and weaksearch local optimization, the adopted optimum methods have been improved by combining the merits of adaptive method. Finally, the optimum combination of the parameters can be solved with the improved genetic algorithm. Meantime, the optimization computational procedure is established by the FORTRAN language. In order to validate the program's correctness, Jishixia CFRD is used, and then, by analysing the results of improved genetic algorithm,complex method and initial design scheme, it shows that the improvement genetic algorithm can solve the overall optimal question which the non-linear degree high, the constraint condition recessive, also the efficiency is higher than the complex method; after optimization, the dam slope becomes steep , the rockfill materials of downstream increase and the cost of dam saves 4.8 percent; the results of slope stability and stress deformation correspond to ordinary rules. All of these show that the optimization method of improved genetic algorithm used to CFRD is feasible and the results are safe ,economic and reasonable.In this paper ,the mathematical model of CFRD's optimization design is established, and the optimization method of CFRD based on Genetic Arithmetic is suggested, which rich the content of CFRD's optimization design, and provide a optimized method with important reference value and reasonable achievements for the dam. Meantime, the optimization program for Concrete face rockfill dam by improved genetic alorithm is established, which provides a economic, security and fast calculation program.
