Concrete face rockfill dam (CFRD) is one of the most important dam types of hydro-structure which is quickly developed in recent thirty years. But the design of this kind of dam is always in the experimental stage, in which there is no sophisticated theory. In order to improve the design quality, level and efficiency, and to excavate the potential, to reduce the material volume and realize the automatic technology, the working state of all status of the dam must be known at first. Then the safe and appropriate design must be studied. The development of CFRD and the present design study of CFRD are introduced systematically. Aiming at the characteristics of the structure and the stress state, including the safety, economic demand, the following is studied.Firstly, certainty analysis and optimization of CFRD. The stability analysis and finite element static and dynamic analysis of CFRD are presented systematically. The appropriate optimization mathematic model is created, in which the interval mathematic method is applied. Comparing with the mathematic programming method, the one in this paper gets the better results.Secondly, the feedback analysis and informational construction of CFRD. Sensitivity analysis of the material parameters of CFRD is present. The inversion analysis model is established based on the measured displacement data with which it can forecast the state of the dam during both construction and operation period. Then it can help guide the construction and the operation manner, and ensure the safety of the dam.Thirdly, the uncertainty stable analysis of CFRD. The uncertainty factor in the structure design of CFRD is discussed, the generalized reliability concept and the theory and methods of fuzzy random reliability analysis are included. The fuzzy random reliability theory is applied in the stabilize analysis for CFRD, based on which the fuzzy random reliability mathematic model of CFRD is established. With the help of the model, the minimum reliability index is founded by a new genetic algorithm.Fourthly, the uncertainty optimization design of CFRD. According to the uncertainty feature of the objective function and the constraint conditions, the theory and method of structure fuzzy random optimization design are introduced. The fuzzy random optimization design theory is applied in the structure design, with the help of which, the optimization mathematic model of CFRD is established. With the above model, the reliability, and economic reasonable design plan is obtained.Finally, the analyses and optimization research of Meixi CFRD on superstratum, and Chengpin CFRD are doing in this paper. It shows that the results have important reference value and reasonable achievements.
