Urban space condition is a limitation for social economic development, and new space should be investigated. Expressway will resolve the problem in one way, which makes the urban spatial extension multi-poled, organized and form a new urban system by improving the accessibility of area along the expressway. It is significant to study the expressway impacts on the land use layout in theory and practice. The construction of expressway can influence not only the conformation of land use layout macroscopically, but also the land use type selection of each spatial unit. In this paper, the interaction between expressway and land use was studied, based on the existed researches on traffic and land use.Firstly, based on the essential analysis of the land use and the expressway, and the integrated researches of them, the mutual impact mechanism between the expressway and the land use were analyzed.Secondly, the impacts of the related characteristic factors of expressway on land use layout were studied. Considering such factors as the expressway form, functional definition, controlled exit, capacity, accessibility, and integrity with the interior route, the expressway impact on the land use layout were analyzed systemically.Thirdly, from the microcosmic perspective, MNL (Multinomial Logit Model) model was introduced into this paper, in order to simulate the land use along the expressway. Combining with the impact factors of land use, the MNL model for the land use type selection of the spatial unit was proposed. It can be used to explore the quantization mode in land use planning, also to analyze the expressway functions on the land use forming. Finally, the related methods and model were used on a case study of Zhongshan City. The results of the study were testified to be successful, and can be used on both expressway system planning and land use planning.
