The traditional process is usually unstandardized, designed unefficiently, hard to manage and maintain. In the modern corporations, computer aided process planning (CAPP) would be the trend of development with the wide use of computer. Many factors will influence the process planning, such as, production type, product structure, process preparation, technology development and even the management system, so universal CAPP system is difficult to be developed. Nowadays the development of CAPP system is based on the corporation conditions and the characteristics of certain product, with aim of practicality and total integration in the corporations. In this thesis, feature-based modeling method of CAPP system of hydraulic manifold blocks (HMB) is proposed, based on manufacturing-oriented feature mapping model and analysis of the characteristics of design and manufacturing of HMB. The prototype software of CAPP system of HMB is developed and its feasibility is illustrated. The main contents of the thesis are as follows:1. The basic principles, types and development modes of CAPP are summarized, and the conditions of research, development and application of CAPP and HMB also, based on lots of literature. Finally the structures and main contents of this thesis are given.2. Some key technology problems are studied, including manufacturing-oriented design method, feature design, feature identification, feature mapping, object-oriented modeling method-UML, database technology.3. A manufacturing-oriented feature mapping technology and modeling method and process of CAPP system of HMB is proposed, based on analysis of the characteristics of design and manufacturing of HMB.4. The CAPP system of HMB (HMBCAPP) is developed. Its development conditions, whole structures, function modules are introduced. And its feasibility is illustrated with an example.
