Currently, energy consumption and environment pollution are two main problems for automotive industry. Thus, increasing demands on the performance of internal combustion engines require the production of high torque and more power for a given amount of chemical fuel with reducing pollutant emissions. Among numerous advanced technologies, Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) is considered as one of the most efficient way to improve gasoline engines'fuel consumption, increase power output and reduce emissions.Alternative methods for achieving total valve motion control by means of hydraulics, electromagnetics or pneumatics. The EHCV (Electrohydraulic Camless Valvetrain), which uses neither cams nor return springs, offers independent and continuously variable control of all parameters of valve motion.This dissertation mainly focused on the control for EHCV and the development of the monitor system for experiment. After a detailed introduction and analysis, the significance for the development of camless engine was pointed out. In order to do the research about control strategy for EHCV, an electro-mechanical-hydraulic dynamic model for the already exist system has been developed using MATLAB/SIMULINK-Stateflow. From this point, the close-loop controller (PID) was developed control based on the model. The model result proved its good adaptability to maintain the peak lift when the operation condition changes.The monitor system was also developed, including: designed the position methine using LabVIEW and designed the hardware and software of the embedded controller (80C196KC). The experimental data has been obtained for analysing with the model result and the parameters which influence the system performance ware find out.
