Along with the development of seaports, there is an inharmony terra using layout which was lead by the constrction and design of harbor and city. This problem stems from lacking of experience of development of seaports in and abroad and the diffirent administrant department who is in charge with the desingning of port and city's layout lacks of understanding of each other. In order to dealing with the spatial development of port and city, some important ports are selected as this paper's main objects. Based on this, it studys the spatial relationship between port and city, and gets the evolutive characteristic of seaports in different times. It also discusses the factors which could influence the spatial relationship between port and city, the evolutive rule of estuarine spatial structure of port and city, and how to line it up. It could provide some references to the design of seaports'layout. It has eight chapters. The first one introduces this paper's background, aim, meaning, study scope, main object, related study abstract, study means and innovation. The chapter two introduces some related theory of port and city's space in and abroad, and evaluates the current state of study of the spatial relationship between port and city. In the third chapter, it mentioned that natural environment, society environment, progress of technology and basic establishment are the main factors which could influence the spatial relationship between port and city a lot. And it illustrates how these four factors to work. Combined with these factors, it concludes that the basic rule of selection of port position contains policy, economic district, ship condition and spatial resource four parts. Based on history data, the chapter four summarily introduces and analyses the development of Guangdong's city and port in ancient times, modern times and nowadays. The chapter five introduces Shanghai, Tianjin, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Fuzhou, Shantou, Antwerp and Rotterdam those estuarine ports'current development state and evolvement of the spatial relationship between port and city. It also summarizes the theory and developmental trend of evolvement of the spatial structure between port and city .In chapter six, combined with existing problems in spatial structure and modern style of the spatial relationship between port and city, it puts forward how to line up the spatial relationship between port and city. The chapter seven introduces and analyses the current state of the spatial relationship between port and city in Guangzhou. Based on the related layout of Guangdong's city and port and the conclusions above, it shows how to optimize the spatial relationship between port and city in Guangdong. The eighth one concludes the main outcomes and gives some proposals of the Guangzhou's spatial relationship between port and city.
