Masonry structure is one of the most important forms of residential building in china. The common and urgent to be solved problem for this kind of structures is temperature cracks.Based on a wide variety of methods used for computing the temperature stress, the nonlinear finite element method is adopted. Through analyzing different models of a masonry building, the following conclusions can be made:On the influence of summer temperature, the cracks of walls toward the sun are serve, but that of walls in shady-side are slight. The cracks of walls on the top story are serve, but that of walls in the base story are slight. The cracks of walls in the end are serve, but that of walls in the middle are slight. The 45°Miter Crack cracks and horizontal cracks on the top story are produced by the temperature rising in summer. The factors influencing temperature cracks are temperature difference, the ratio of aperture, the installation of tectonic columns, and the longitudinal length of the entire masonry building.Accompanying the rising of temperature difference, the expansion of longitudinal length of the entire ma sonry building, the augmentation of aperture ratio, and the horizontal shear stress on the end wall of the top story is increased, the cracks become broader, longer and their number is added. Installing the tectonic columns can decrease the horizontal displacement of walls and enhance their resistance to crack. The stress of wall under slope roof decrease, so the slope roof can alleviate the cracks in the wall. The temperature stress will be reduced distinctly and cracks can be controlled after the thermal insulating layer for the roof and wall is adopted. And the paper araise the things that must be cared when thermal insulation layer pave. According to the factors influencing temperature cracks, the dissertation proposed the ways and the measures that can decrease the temperature stress and control the temperature cracks.
