The pantograph/catenary coupling characteristics in rigid suspension catenary relates to the train normal operating safely and highly, finite element method is an effective manner in analysing nonliner and dynamic problems. Based on the general finite element analysis software ANSYS, programming with the ANSYS parametric design language APDL, simulation study, such as, nonlinear transient analysis, contact analysis and restart has been made on the rigid suspension catenary system with three pantographs in order to provide therotical guidance for the design, installation and operation of the system.This article, firstly, introduces the general situation of rigid suspension catenary, its applications and present study status at home and foreign. According to the equivalence of elastic energy of position with kinetic energy, the equivalent model of suspension structure including current collecter rail insulator is derived. Establishing the calculation model of rigid suspension catenary– continuous beam with elastic spring supporting. Through the"contact pair"between pantograph and contact wire, the pantograph/catenary coupling model of rigid suspension system is established.Influence factors on equivalent stiffness of suspension structure is analysed one by one quantitatively. The deflection curve under self weight and static elasticity are obtained through static analysis. The natural frequency and vibration modal are gained through modal analysis.The influence factors on dynamic current collecting are put forward under a whole dynamic system of pantograph-catenary / vehicle / rail, and the evalution index for dynamic current collecting are presented.Dynamic analysis is made on the rigid suspension catenary system with three pantographs. Many factors on dynamic current collecting quality are considered in dynamic study, including layout of span, stiffness of suspension structure, current collecting rail joint, overlap, catenary slope, contact wire uneven, pantograph parameters, pantograph spacing, train speed. Finally, the instructions on project pratice of rigid suspension catenary system are presented.
