Based on the theory of biological manganese fixation and removal as well as experiment, author studies the structure, distribution of the microorganism and capability of the microorganism filtration layer through filters and model-column experiment. And concludes the way of maintain capability of the microorganism filtration layer. The way of silica-replacing solves the problem successfully, and proves it to be feasible. But the mature time of the layer depends on the amount of silica-replacing. Excessive amount of silica-replacing cause the number of microorganism drop, which costs nearly two months to be up to snuff. The other filters take only one week or less because of the right amount of silica-replacing. The success of the model-column prove the way of silica-replacing feasibility more. What is more, we work out the plan for the company on the result of the experiment: once a year but do not over 20cm. Also it proves that increase the thickness of the layer to be useful. The manganese concentration in water to be delt has great effect on the out- flow water of filtration layer, and so dose the backing-washing. Backwashing is aimed to avoid harden of layer just after silica-replacing. When the layer comes mature, backwashing do not disturb it much, that the out flow water can reach the 0.1mg/L level in 1 min, and in 3 min even with high manganese concentration water backwashing. Filtration velocity should not rising sharply. The success of our experiment not only solve the water quality problem of shenyang developing section of economy and technology, but also gives a solution of such problems, which provides practical material to improve the theory biological manganese fixation and removal.
