Since joining the WTO, the Chinese auto-industry has been keeping the momentum that is developing rapidly all the time and is worthy of the most promising trade. As the Chinese automobile market,especially private car market, being further ripe,the competition of the automobile market has already developed into a new height. Among them,the competition of humanized and aesthetics design is more outstanding,people wish more comfortable,safer,more beautiful automobile eagerly. The color impact and appearance model are the external factors that determine the consumers'psychology while choosing the automobile. Outstanding and striking,harmonious color can absorb consumers' sight directly.The difference of inherent characteristics of color and the different environments the automobile located can influence the color choice and arrangement of the color designer directly. We could presents these design elements realistically by virtual reality (VR) technology,which enable the consumers to observe and experience the fictitious car steering environment freely,and to choose one's own individual suitable characteristic color while driving in the fictitious automobile.The paper discusses the research status of both the domestic and the international virtual reality technology firstly. Then three-dimensional modeling software 3DSMAX is used to establish high-quality automobile, and the Creator software is used, which can reflect the artificial model of external view. The building of virtual platform method based on EON Studio is presented. The paper discusses many key technologies, such as: the gain and management of the 3D model data, the utilization of motion points, the translation and edition of high romance language Cg, the realization of collision inspect technology in fictitious driving, etc.On the base of the summarizing of the color design theories of basic theory and human-machine engineering that automobile color is designed,the paper designs many kinds of body and interior decorations color scheme,develops a mutual " people - machine - the environment "operation that one can change mixed colors of automobile in real time on the simulation platform. EON software is developed by the application of EON SDK, the automatically statistical program of the click times and response time of the testers is designed. Take the click times and response time as the experiment data, combining the subjective survey of the designed color, the data is calculated and analyzed. Finally, the paper gets the mixed color which suits the physiological characteristic of the compatriots. The paper tries to probe the basic law that the automobile color is designed. According to the age aesthetic characteristics of the color,the paper forecasts the development trend of the automobile color in the following several years,which can offer some beneficial reference for the design of automobile color.
