In recent years,computer simulation and virtual reality technology as a new computer application field, is more and more used in all walks of life and the rapidly developing, the navigation field is no exception. For the safety of ship navigation, the IMO promulgated "the Manila Amendment of the STCW Convention" to strengthen the convention on the crew’s skill training. The researchers begin to use virtual reality technology in engine room simulator, in order to achieve better training results and design multiple functions available, strong immersed feeling, low cost, easy maintenance and better interactive performance turbine virtual training system, which has become a current hot spot of the navigation field.This paper takes the rotary vane steering gear of Dalian Maritime University education ship"YUKUN" as simulated object to develop engine room simulator by using virtual reality technology. The article first analyzes the structural characteristics, operating principles and system parameters of the rotary vane hydraulic steering gear. Then, we establish the dynamic math model of steering gear system by using the method of modular modeling and lumped parameter modeling, and basing on the mathematical model, wo use the MATLAB/Simulink to do the real-time simulation of thesteeringgearsystem, compared With demand of speed of rudder movement in SOLAS regulation,ensuring the mathematical model of steering gear is right and effective.On the basis of the accurate mathematical model, using C#. Net programming language designs the rotary vane steering gear system simulation software. The simulation software includes a man-machine interface and a simulation model. The man-machine interface is used to respond to the operation of the interface to make a variety of real-time data display system, the parametric curve and failure alarm. The simulation model is used for simulating and calculating the operating principles of the whole steering gear, and gives system data and status real-time on man-machine interface. Using3dsMax software to establish the three-dimensional model of the steering gear system and render optimized, and then importing the model into XNA virtual reality3D engine to achieve the virtual roaming and operation of the steering gear system. Under.NET platform, combining the three-dimensional entities of the simulation software with virtual steering gear system to achieve interoperability maintain the status and parameters of the two corresponding objects synchronous through the sharing of model data.The research results show that the application of virtual reality technology in the steering gear system provides more accurate and vivid tool for crew training, at the same time, provides some way to the research of the virtual training system.
