Cable dome is a new self-prestressed structural form comprised of cables , struts and membranes,which is also a reasonable and efficient structure . Cable dome can use steel's tensional strength efficiently, its weight is very light, cable dome has good local stability and overall stability. The existing two styles of cable domes are Geiger style and Levy style, whose representational projects are 1988's Seoul Olympics stadium and 1996's Atlanta Olympics stadium respectively. Based on the character, geometry and bearing mechanism of the structure, a new type of cable domes- Inclined-strut cable dome is proposed and studied the structural morphology, the static performance, simulation of tension, design of joints. Proper ranges about structural parameters have been given. It provides reference value for practical cable dome engineering research.Firstly, based on reading many specialty literatures, the history of development, several projects and the structural features of the cable dome as well as current research on cable dome are introduced. Then the major research contents of this thesis are presented.Secondly, the static performance of Inclined-strut cable dome system is analyzed, and compare the characteristics of Geiger system and Levy system. By considering the deficiencies of the former forms, a new type of cable domes -Inclined-strut cable dome. Static behavior analysis includes modeling, analysis the structural morphology, load-analysis, in which formfinding is finished by reverse interative method. Using parameter analysis way,this thesis has studied Inclined-strut system cable domes fully whose spans are 60m,80m and 100m considering some basic parameters such as rise-span ratio, number of nodes at each ring and so on, and educed some effect or impression of the basic parameters on displacement, amount of using steel.Thirdly, collected some joints design information of cable dome and analysed their characteristics. Designed a simple joint mode for Inclined-strut cable domes considering some requirements such as pin joint, transferring force suitably, simple conformation and supplied some references for project practice. Also several construction methods for Inclined-strut cable domes are discussed and studied in detail. And the construction processes of the cable dome are simulated. Simulated 3 tension schemes by using finite element analysis software. Feasibility of tension is evaluated by analyzing their change rules of internal force. At last a good feasible scheme is adviced.Finally, all the achievements accomplished are summarized and some problems for future study are proposed.
