The Street Landscape Survey And Analysis For Shanghai Downtown Area Within The First Ring

The urban streetscape is the embodiment of the city feature, which strongly impresses the visitors. The city street landscape has its visual, practical, ecological, and cultural significance. It is more and more appreciated that utilizes vegetation to re-create the urban streetscape as a "green corridor" as well as an ecological, practical, and beautiful street landscape.Recently, Shanghai has made a lot of practices and achievements for urban landscape construction and management. The city ecological and environmental appearance is greatly enhanced. Along with the urban development and city road alteration, the road type in Shanghai and its landscape has been changed. It presents betimes the achievement of Shanghai recent street landscape construction by the survey of its current conditions.This study analyses the current landscape condition of 130 roads within the first ring of Shanghai by means of spot check in field survey. Through the survey and study of the vegetation profile, planting species, adoption frequency, and planting configuration of those 130 roads, the summary is as the following:Recently along with the development of urban road and enhanced recognition of street landscape, the road type and function of Shanghai downtown within the first ring road tends to diversification. However, the problems still exist, like low GAR (Green Area Ratio), simplification of planting species, seasonal appearance and vegetation type, lack of agrestic species. In the third chapter of this study, some thoughts and suggestions on the future street landscape construction are proposed. For example, under the condition of existing road section, how to increase the GAR other than road green belt, as well as increase landscape layers at the road without greenbelt or with narrow greenbelt; How to increase the diversity of vegetation, as well as the seasonal appearance; How to embody the unique road character by adoption of diverse planting type concurrence to meet the ornamental requirement of street landscape; The measures and feasibility of increasing agrestic species and proposition of cautiously building "green corridor" in city roads.Though this analysis and study, I hope I can get comprehensive and systemic understanding of Shanghai recent road landscape construction achievement, and testimony of Shanghai future landscape undertaking, to create the landscape feature of an international city and achieve the goal of "City Makes Better Life".
