Brake beam is an important part of the freight car, it is one of the object of the"defend to take off, defend to break" of"three defend"system. After the railway speed increased, as the break time and times increased, the rate of malfunction also increased, and it affects the safe of freight car. The reason is the weld structure of it's own. To solve this problem, using combined beam, composite of beam and stanchion, is an urgent affair.The newly brake beam is modular structure which combined by wrought steel through fastener. Not one welded by many plates. The terminal condition of part contractions is nonlinear in mechanics. So built a module of numerical simulation is important. In this paper, the basic principles and key technologies in numerical simulation based on the contact theory are discussed. Direct constraints method used in MSC.Marc is applied in the new combining brake beams.On the base of finite-element model and"Specification of railway vehicle strength design and test identification", comparing a series of scheme, adjusted the T bar of the end part of brake beam and cross dimensions. It reduces the stress level of high stress area, proper the stress distribution. And the inclined piece of brake beam becomes uniform cross-section from variable cross-section. Overcome the deficiency of initial design. At the same time, the weight of brake beam is reduced. At final project, the result of test is approximately to the result of calculation. Now the new style brake beam has been used.
