Suzhou gardens originated from the Spring and Autumn Period, got the growth in the Tang and Song dynasties and reached its heyday in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It has collected many elements and creates a tranquil, elegant and romantic fairy land in a titchy place, and reaches an artistic perfection.The doors and windows are the combination of practical and ornamental building components. This paper mainly studies those doors and windows that will play a referential role in modern artistic design and aesthetic appreciation. It also defines their location and concept.The author mainly studied 11 typical classical gardens of Suzhou, Jingxiutang of Xishan Hill, the scattered ancient houses, the Suzhou Museum, the modern buildings and public places which uses the elements of the Suzhou garden windows and doors, visited Suzhou garden archives and the Suzhou Landscape bureau, attended a series of lectures held by"Suzhou Musem Forum", took the photos or surveyed more than 40 portals and 600 carved windows which have great significance to the study of Suzhou gardens, read a lot of books on the history of Suzhou gardens and aesthetics, and learned the background and development of Suzhou gardens.Based on the effort, by analyzing the arts in the portals of Suzhou classical gardens and its aesthetic ideas and cultural content, combining the traditional ideas on building garden to state how the gardens achieve the harmony with the surroundings and the significance in expressing the aesthetic appreciation to the classical garden, the paper got the referential significance and practical value of the caved portals in Suzhou gardens.
