The short-pier shear wall tall building with beam-type transfer floor is a kind of complex tall building structure form which is irregular. The characteristics of this kind structure is that in order to meet the requirements of the use of the large space of the bottom in the buildings, some vertical members of the top storey can not be located continuously, which will lead to the changes of the vertical stiffness and the easily abrupt changes of the internal forces and displacements of the top and down storey of the transfer floors, not benefiting the seismic design. So, properly structural measures should be made to guarantee the seismic safety of the engineering structures in seismic regions. This paper adopts the design method based on the structural performance to make a try of the design of the complex tall building with transfer floor, bringing forward a new form of structural transfer floor:"shear wall stress arch + beam-type transfer". This paper also makes the finite element analysis to get the general rules.Firstly, this paper selects the practical project as the object, using the SATWE 3D finite element program to analyze the merits and drawbacks of the different designs of the transfer floors and placing the emphasis on the internal forces and displacements of the"shear wall stress arch + beam-type transfer"design. According to the analyzing results, the design is optimized and the total construction draw is accomplished. The practical results indicate that the design of shear wall stress arch + beam-type transfer floor meets the requirements of the architecture design scheme on the one hand; on the other hand it makes the structural design economical and reasonable and the seismic performance precede other transfer manners.Secondly, this paper also discusses the process and the affecting factors and analyzes the selection of the mechanical models of the structural analysis and the seismic waves. The deformation of the structure subjected to the major earthquake is described and the analysis of the deformation results indicates that the application of conceptual design in this paper is successful.Thirdly, this paper introduces the concept of the performance-based design into the structural design. Thus the concept and the design method of the performance-based design are applied into the actual short-pier shear wall tall building with beam-type transfer floor, and the design method of the complex tall building is studied so as to make a try that putting the use the performance-based design method into the structures with transfer floor.
