The structure supported by foundation with different horizontal level is widely applied in the mountainous city,and the structural wall is also a popular structural member existing in those structures of city's building. Because of its upper and lower fixed end, the stress deformation characteristics and failure modes of this structure are significantly different from that of the general flat ground structure.Previous studies are mainly fastened on the frame structure, lacking of attention to the seismic behavior and failure mode of this structure with shear wall in the mountainous area. In order to ensure that the structural wall has the corresponding deformation capacity, the damage location of the shear wall should be studied to determine the scope of the bottom strengthened region.In this paper, the case of 8 degree 0.2g frame-shear wall structure with different shear wall arrangement and different ratio of height to width is considered. Nonlinear dynamic analysis is used to study both the damage location and the extent of damage to the shear wall under Rare Earthquake. The bottom strengthened region can be determined after that.Through the above research work, it is concluded that:(1)The first two bottom floors connected to the upper ground are weak layers. Shear yielding and flexural yield are prone to appear in those regions. In accordance with the Seismic Design Code, taking the greater value between the 1/10 of total height of the shear wall and the height of first two bottom floors can meet the requirements.(2)The first bottom floor and two stilted floors at the height of upper ground located on the lower ground are the major regions observed Shear yielding or flexural yield. The recommended bottom strengthened region of the shear wall located on the lower ground is the bottom floor. And bottom strengthened region of the shear wall located on the upper ground takes the greater value between the 1/10 of total height of the shear wall and the height of bottom two bottom floors.(3)With the increase number of the total floors, the bending degree of the shear wall connected to both the upper and the lower ground is gradually increased. Meanwhile, the shearing degree has been decreased.(4)With the increase number of the stilted floors, the bending yielding and shear yielding of the shear wall connected to the upper ground become more serious.
