The historical seismic damage indicated that the damage degree of the buildings is very serious, which includes economic loss, casualty, and some secondary disaster and so on. Accordingly, the most effective way to reduce the seismic disaster loss are as following: predicting the seismic performance of building in a certain intensity earthquake scientifically; analyzing the weakness of earthquake defense and damage reduction in a city; and putting forward the defending strategies pertinently.This paper focus on the following work:1. The seriousness of seismic disasters in our country and the meaning of seismic damage prediction are introduced; the historical and future trends of seismic damage prediction for buildings are described; the traditional prediction methods and its character are summarized; the importance of the fast seismic damage prediction method is pointed out; finally, the seismic damage analogue prediction method is presented.2. The method is improved in two aspects on the basis of the traditional analogue method: first, five different influence factors are selected for the different structure types; second, more rational weight is adopted by grey relation analysis. So, the improved method is more objective compared with the old one.3. At last, the historical earthquake instances are selected, the sample storehouse is set up from some previous seismic damage records and the traditional vulnerability analytical method is utilized for the typical structure type buildings in our country to expand the sample storehouse. An object-oriented visual seismic damage prediction program, which is compiled by visual foxpro, is based on the improved analogue prediction method. The result of seismic damage prediction of city common buildings is got by this program.
