The design cycle of new product has direct impact on market share and profit rate. It is important to adopt an effective design approach to shorten the design cycle. ATV's is the key carrying part and it is the foundation of the entire ATV design. This research provides a new developing mode combining design with analysis.and and finite element analysis data and shorten the design cycle of the vehicle.Utilizing comparative analysis approach, two type of ATV's bodies have been investigated. Finite element model of the ATV's body is established, and the analysis validates the finite element model. Then, combined with application conditions of ATV, we conduct modal analysis, strength and stiffness analysis, fatigue life analysis and road test of ride comfort. Through the comparative analysis, the performance of the new vehicle body reaches the sample vehicle's level. The main research is as follows:(1) Based on fast reverse modeling and utilizing Surfacer and NX3.0, the geometric model of sample vehicle is established, then, we design a new vehicle body on the basis of the model and the previous matching between the body and the engine.(2) Utilizing Hypermesh, the finite element of the body is established and finite element modal analysis is carried out with MSC.Natran. Through experimental modal analysis, the reliability and veracity of the finite element model is validated. Furthermore, the matching ability between external excitation and structural modal parameters is analyzed.(3) Several typical working conditions during actual using process of ATV are chosen to verify the strength of body, and the comparative analysis of body between the sample vehicle modified vehicle and is also conducted.(4) Based on the stress-strain result obtained from finite element analysis and utilizing MSC.FATIGUE, the structural fatigue damage caused by dynamic stress and strain during riding. Consequently, we attain structural fatigue life distribution of the body and finally find weak locations to fatigue.(5) Ride comfort of ATV is evaluated through the road test utilizing ride comfort test system of motorcycle, furthermore the results are compared between the sample vehicle and modified vehicle. The result indiacated that the new designed frame can basiclly meets the quality of the sample frame.
