With high performance, pentamaran will be developed well in future. The complicated wave interference effect exists between slender monohull and four sponsons. And there is close relation between the wave-making resistance and the change of factors, such as form and configuration of sponsons. This paper discusses the method for calculating wave-making resistance of pentamaran and how changes of the form and the configuration of the forward sponsons and aft sponsons affects on the wave interference effect, and searches the related laws, and presents some conclusion with reference value for optimizing the ship form and configuration of pentamaran. And the detailed contents are as follows.Firstly, based on Noblesse's New Slender Ship Theory and Michell thin-ship Theory, this paper programs to calculate the ship wave-making resistance, analyzes the applied area and commonness between the two kinds of theory, and establishes the foundation to use further this kinds of theory to calculate the multi-hull wave-making resistance.Secondly, based on Noblesse's New Slender Ship Theory and Michell thin-ship Theory, this paper presents the formulas of wave-making resistance of trimaran, calculates the wave-making resistance of Wigley trimaran according to two kinds of theory, and compares with experimental results, and proves that the calculational methods and programs are correct, and discusses the applied area and shortage as the two kinds of theory are used to forecast wave interference.Thirdly, based on Noblesse's New Slender Ship Theory and Michell thin-ship Theory, this paper presents the formulas of wave-making resistance of pentamaran, discusses how changes of the dimension of aft sponsons of Wigley pentamaran affects on the wave-making resistance, and investigates how the configuration of the forward sponsons and aft sponsons affects on the wave interference effect, obtains some laws of configuration of sponsons according to enumeration method. Fourthly, this paper presents a type of pentamaran with small waterplane area center and slender sponsons wich used respectively as the forward sponsons and aft sponsons. The wave-making resistance is calculated as the form and configuration of the forward sponsons and aft sponsons changes, and researches that those factors how to affect on the wave-making resistance and wave interference effect of pentamatan.
