Bridges shold the key positions in tnarsportation system,the performance of them are related to economic development and people's lives. At present, study on the decision-making in bridge maintenance and BMS has developed dramatically in developed country, but the relative research is still in developing process in our country. The research is very importmant to insure to make decision of bridge maintenance scientifically, reasonably, economically, and extend the bridges'service life, guarantee the use of the bridge.After the analysis of existing problems in management of bridge maintenance in our country, this paper introducing the domestic and overseas present condition and trend of study on bridge maintenance management. from the bridge information collecting, bridge inspecting and examination, the bridge technical condition state evaluation and prediction, the bridge economic analysis and line up items etc, study the whole process of decision-making in bridge maintenance, and analyse and summarize the advanced technology of condition state evaluation and prediction, the method of economic analysis. This paper put forward some viewpoint such as, the bridge technical condition state evaluation should consider the method of AHP combines with expert's grading; carrying capacity evaluation should use fuzzy conmprehensive approach, fuzzy neural network and grey relevant coefficient evaluation to offset the shortage of normal check computations and load examination; the theory of fuzzy system and artificial neural network are applicable to the bridge technical condition prediction; using the life cycle cost analysis to make economic analysis of bridge maintenance etc. With the analysis of BMS and bridge monitoring system and an example, this paper point to the shortages of present BMS, and direction of its development.
